For the last few years, I have been obsessed with making sequin pin ornaments (here was last year’s contribution on the subject). They are time consuming but easy to master. The possibilities are truly endless even with just one value bag of sequins and some pins especially sold for this purpose, which should be no [...]

Satin stitch has to be my favorite embroidery technique. Of course, it takes up the most floss and the most time, but I think the returns warrant the extra effort and supplies.
As I promised here, I would show you a thrifty project soon. I’m using one of the $1 pillow cases and “coloring in” the [...]

I know there are about a million tutorials out there about these little round fabric wonders, but I thought I’d put in my two cents too.
Making yo-yos, like all sewing skills, takes practice to get it down and get your own feel for it. But here are some starting points. First, you don’t need anything [...]

This week, I’m trying to finish all Works In Progress so that my workroom can be in better order. First up: a lime potholder.
I chose a lime because I got a ball of green yarn and a ball of white yarn in a Salvation Army sewing and craft grab bag for a dollar (along with [...]

Ever since I was little, the summer has always been the time to work on handmade goods for the holidays, either for oneself, gifts for family and friends, and especially craft shows. I can remember the kitchen or dining room table covered in newspaper, topped with wooden pieces painted with FolkArt Cardinal Red and Kelly [...]

Looking at it this way, it reminds me of Mexican papel picado.
I forgot to take a picture after I put a piece of lighter pink behind the design to make the front of the card solid again. [...]

This is a little, crazy embroidery I did a few years back. It was semi-inspired by Hungarian embroidery, even though it’s not a floral motif like most Matyo and Kalocsa specimens I’ve seen. Anyway, a bright, pastel chicken is the perfect match for the 80 degree April weather we’ve been having.

Things have been crazy around my house, in good and bad ways, and if I’ve had time to make and work, my projects have been mundane with a lot of assembly line production. But this swatch booklet caught my eye as I was working and I thought I’d share it with you.
I took small index [...]

When the Saints are in the Superbowl and your house is surrounded by 20 inches of snow (and rising), what do you do? Cut out fleur-de-lis paper snowflakes, of course.
I like how subtle the motif is, but I may make one with a more prominent fleur-de-lis soon.
Also I’ve played around with BGPatterns.com and came up [...]

I just wanted to post a work in process that I’ve been picking up here and there for the last year or so. It’s a cross stitch canvas that is 7 inches x 6.5 inches in cranberry and what Crayola and Wikipedia calls “Brink Pink.” I think the impetus of the motif might have been [...]
