Last weekend, I finished the bridesmaid bouquet to match my friend’s bridal bouquet (seen here). It couldn’t have happened any later, since she’s getting married this weekend! This will be the one I get to carry since I’m the maid of honor and coincidentally the only member of the bridal party.
Once again, my camera was [...]

Satin stitch has to be my favorite embroidery technique. Of course, it takes up the most floss and the most time, but I think the returns warrant the extra effort and supplies.
As I promised here, I would show you a thrifty project soon. I’m using one of the $1 pillow cases and “coloring in” the [...]

Background: I live in DC and I have a love/hate relationship with the city. When I love it, I really love it, but when I hate it, oh boy…you get the idea. Currently, I madly adore it. I’ve been taking lots of meandering walks around my neighborhood while I run errands, taking pictures to document [...]

My boyfriend’s birthday just passed so I had to make a gift (of course! I don’t buy presents for anyone anymore). I had a few ideas, like a piñata, a pocket square, etc. But then, I realized, since we play a card game called Dominion about twice a week, either with each other or with friends, I [...]

This is a little thing I made a few years ago and made into a wall hanging. I was inspired by both my love of Japanese raw fish and the iridescent kanji material I had.
It hangs in my kitchen where we eat sushi take-out from Tachibana, possibly the best sushi in the greater Washington area.
I loved [...]

I am a big LOST fan and am excited for the series finale, as are many people. Tonight, the Washington Post Lost Bloggers had a happy hour in honor of the show’s coming to an end. And they had a costume party.
I went to the Salvation Army on H Street NE, after not finding anything [...]

Way back when, I showed you the layout of a tee shirt quilt. I have finally finished it! It took a lot longer than I had planned because of upholstery projects that popped up and other personal reasons. But now it’s quilted, bound, and dedicated.
I traced the dedication from a computer print-out. The picture below [...]

A friend of mine recently had a birthday, so she needed a birthday present. I decided on making a monogrammed handkerchief, since I use one and have found them quite useful. I also have found that I throw it in the wash about every 3 days.
I made it from a square of white cotton and [...]

This is a little, crazy embroidery I did a few years back. It was semi-inspired by Hungarian embroidery, even though it’s not a floral motif like most Matyo and Kalocsa specimens I’ve seen. Anyway, a bright, pastel chicken is the perfect match for the 80 degree April weather we’ve been having.

I made this on Sunday and haven’t gotten around to posting it until today. I had messed up the fabric after trying to embroider on it and cutting out the satin stitching. I guess the weave was too coarse for a satin stitch to my standards.
But I’m quite happy with this little kitchen welcome sign, [...]
