Update: Fabric Flowers Closer to Success
I have been trying here and there to improve upon the fabric flowers created here way back when (I can’t believe it’s already been five months since then). I’m quite pleased with the following prototype and the construction is quite simple.

And the bottom:
How to make each petal is quite simple. Cut out a circle, fold it in half, and sew a running stitch along the semi-circle perimeter, like so:
Then gather the stitches and secure the gathering with stitches back over the folds and a secure knot. The petal will naturally make a cup or spoon shape. From there, I took the first petal and rolled it in the direction of the “cup” to make the center of the flower, then sewed all the other petals around it, overlapping eachother. Finally, I turned the “cups” out, so the petals opened outward. Otherwise, they look like a peony blossom before it has bloomed, just a dense ball layered together.
Maybe I will take pictures of the process when I make my next few for my friend’s wedding bouquet.
